WHY is Newborn & Baby Photography SO expensive?

I hear over and over again that newborn sessions are too expensive and the pricing is outrageous. Ive actually read about other photographers telling clients and potential clients about it as well. Now here I AM.

As as newborn & baby photographer I get sad even reading all of the comments on the mom groups about how every photographer being too expensive. I always see posts about "recommendations for photographers who don't cost as arm and a leg, who are reasonably priced, who won't break the bank, who are less that $200" and most often times more than not, they message me, and them stop replying once I send my pricing. This doesn't only happen to me, it happens to every single newborn photographer around the world.

So... here I am, talking about WHY newborn & baby photographers are so "expensive"

It all comes down to quality of what you are purchasing

I charge what I charge because of my experience, safety training, my knowledge, the high quality props and wraps I use, having everything on hand, having parents only bringing me the baby and the bottles, ( or the boobs whatever works) the hours and hours of time away from family, friends, while I study and practice and get the sets ready time and time again to make sure everything is perfect for when you get here.

Safety & Specializing

Newborn safety is extremely important, and its super common to see new people jumping into newborn photography with super low prices who are not knowledgeable on handling newborn babies, I have heard too many crazy stories to even begin to count.

there's a girl in one of my groups that said it, and im about to say it again!

Not every photographer knows how to photograph babies, and not everyone with a "professional camera" knows how to capture quality images.

Just because Burger King and Taco bell are both food industries, does not mean you can go to Taco Bell and ask for a burger to be made. This is the same with photography.

I would LOVE to offer weddings to my clients, but unfortunately I do not have quality experience to give my clients, so I refer those inquiries out to my other Photographer friends that specialize in weddings!

As a newborn photographer I have taken many online safety courses, have bought posing guides, have done mentoring programs, lighting programs- and had a million sleepless nights figuring life and the business women world out - to be able to provide the best for my clients and provide an awesome high quality experience.

Low cost quality VS high quality

When I first started my journey I charged very, very low prices.

This is when I started

VS Now!

My editing is better, my lighting is better, my props are high quality , I provide an amazing experience to my clients because I know what I am doing; because I took the time to learn and invest in myself, so I can provide an outstanding product.

The bottom line is, the memory of bad quality lasts longer than the shock of high prices. Photography is an investment, and that investment becomes so much more valuable over time. Hiring a professional the first time around ensures you will have quality memories to look back on year after year.
